Sebastien Brion
Sebastien Brion is a Full Professor in the Department of Managing People in Organizations at IESE. He holds a PhD in Organizational Behavior from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. His research focuses on the psychological effects of power, particularly its acquisition, maintenance, and loss in groups and organizations. His doctoral dissertation explored how biases in the way powerful individuals perceive their alliances with others contribute to the loss of power. He has also studied the impact of overconfidence on leadership and examined the fundamental difference between the appearance of leadership and its effectiveness. His work has been featured in publications such as The Economist, Le Monde, Die Welt, and Valor Econômico.
At IESE, Brion teaches core courses on Leadership and Human Resource Management, as well as elective courses on Power and Influence in the MBA program and executive education programs. He has delivered executive training for companies such as L'Oréal, Santander, Nissan, NLNG (Lagos, Nigeria), and Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (the national railway network of Kazakhstan). He has also been a visiting professor at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and has taught in executive programs at the Haas School of Business and MDE (Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire).
As part of his professional activities, Professor Brion has conducted research and consulting projects in the fields of human resources and social media.
